What is the consultation process and can I get a treatment that same day?
Your initial visit will include reviewing health history, measuring and evaluating the tattoo, discussing the process including possible adverse reactions, determining which laser will achieve optimal results, answering questions and determining the price per treatment. As a commitment to our patients, individuals that are a candidate for tattoo removal will always have the option to start treatment the same day of the consultation.
How does laser tattoo removal work?
Color specific energy is applied to the tattooed area of skin. The large ink molecules located in the second layer of your skin absorb the energy and break the ink up into smaller particles that are then absorbed and processed out through your immune system.
Will laser tattoo removal leave a scar?
No, the laser energy acts like a magnet and is attracted only to the ink in your skin leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. Scarring occurs in less than 5% of tattoo removal patients and is typically only seen in those with a predisposition to keloid or hypertrophic scars. Our technicians review these case types specifically prior to suggesting treatment options.
Will my tattoo be completely gone?
In most cases, yes however, there are over 100 tattoo inks on the market, none of which are regulated by the FDA. Without a standardization of ink it would be difficult to accurately predict the degree of removal in every tattoo.
How many treatments will I need?
Every tattoo is unique to the individual, and will require a different amount of treatment. The most accurate estimate will come from a personal evaluation of your tattoo by one of our technicians. The location, color, age, amount of ink, depth of ink as well as each individuals skin type and personal health will all be taken into consideration when determining the number of treatments needed for removal. On average a professional tattoo requires 8-12 treatments on a Q-switch laser and 4-6 treatments on the PicoSure laser.
Does it hurt?
While every individual experiences pain differently we take every precaution to make the process as comfortable as possible. Through topical numbing prior to treatment and use of the Zimmer Cryo 6 in treatment most patients do not experience a large amount of discomfort.
How often can I get a treatment?
We recommend treatment every 6-8 weeks depending on the laser used. On the surface your skin may look healed within 1-2 weeks however, with 95% of your removal being an internal process we prefer to give your body time to do what it does best and process out the ink naturally. More frequent treatments will not make your ink disappear faster but in turn will increase your risk for pigment change and scarring.
What will my tattoo look like after each treatment?
Post treatment your tattoo may look a little angry. Redness, scabbing and blistering are all common temporary outcomes of laser removal. If you follow all the aftercare guidelines given to you by your tattoo removal technician your skin should heal within 5-7 days. You will notice from week to week in between treatments your tattoo will get significantly lighter. Though these results are more pronounced during your first few treatments. Your tattoo will become lighter with each session.
What should I expect after each treatment?
Most patients do not experience any down time with their treatments. To ensure healthy healing avoid direct sun exposure to the tattooed area, pools, hot tubs and saunas for the first week. Each patient will receive detailed aftercare instructions and will have access to our 24-hour aftercare hotline for any additional questions.
Do you offer the R20 Method of removal?
Yes, however the R20 Method is not a suitable treatment option for all tattoos and skin types. A consultation will be required to determine if the R20 Method is the right choice for you and your tattoo.
